Azure Migration with SQL Database & SQL PaaS
AN MDS MICROSOFT SUCCESS STORY
The Challenge
This telecom client, with over 7,000 users, needed to develop an enhanced cloud strategy properly. They needed to migrate their server workloads from an on-premise data center in Jamaica. The datacenter was running virtualized servers attached to centralized SANs and the storage and virtual infrastructure. The infrastructure was in need of an update, and in order to save capital costs and reduce their data center footprint, they decided to leverage Azure to modernize their applications.
The company did not have the dedicated resources to do this and they also had many different databases, causing the project to be complicated and extensive. The client had previously worked with four different technology partners who could not deliver.
The Solution
MDS worked hand-in-hand with the client over many months to develop a Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF). The determined cloud solution was Microsoft Azure.
MDS used an Agile process to perform discovery, design, planning, and migration service for the applications to the Azure cloud. Each application was modernized during the migration and rehost on either platform services or new Windows server operating systems.
MDS also put together multiple technology teams to handle discovery, refactoring, and rebuilding of their many apps. All of these teams are working together with apps that have SQL Database and were migrated to SQL PaaS.
The Result
At the end of the project, MDS was able to successfully migrate over 700 applications to Microsoft Azure without interfering with the day-to-day business of the client. We also instilled trust with the client who had continuous bad experiences with other partners.
