Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB)
By Michael Fiorito, MDS
According to Gartner, a cloud access security broker (CASB) is an on-premises or cloud-based security policy enforcement point that is placed between cloud service consumers and cloud service providers to combine and interject enterprise security policies as cloud-based resources are accessed.
CASBs focus cloud security around four main pillars: visibility, compliance, data security and threat protection.
- Visibility – CASBs access the security posture of data and applications in the cloud – a necessary first step
- Compliance – CASBs help your organization remain compliant with regulations such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, HIPTECH, SOX, CIPA, FISMA and FERPA
- Data Security – CASBs help identify, monitor and secure sensitive data
- Threat Protection – CASBs protect organizations against account compromise and malware, shielding sensitive data from potential attacks
MDS can help you develop a comprehensive security program and partner with vendors like cloudlock to implement a CASB solution.
