Full Migration from On-Premise to the Cloud

A DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION SUCCESS STORY

A global investment firm achieved organizational flexibility in the cloud due to MDS facilitated on-premise to off-premise cloud-first migration.

The Challenge

When our customer first approached Maureen Data, the ask was simple: implement Windows 10 across the firm in order to modernize the technology at its disposal while avoiding any impact that would be caused by the end of extended support for Windows 7.

As we started to have the conversation around Windows 10, we highlighted how the technology paradigm has shifted to a service-oriented approach. The investment form liked the idea of Windows as a continually updated and managed service. What started as a Windows 10 conversation very quickly became a conversation regarding how we could replace on-premise systems and allow the customer to become a truly cloud-first organization.

The Solution

The conversation with our client began around a Windows 7 to Windows 10 migration. That being said, MDS highlighted how the technology paradigm has shifted to be more service-oriented and the benefits of this approach. The investment firm liked the idea of Windows as a continually updated and managed service. What started as a Windows 10 conversation very quickly became a conversation regarding how MDS could replace on-premise systems and allow the customer to become a truly cloud-first organization.

The Result

After spending 3 days envisioning the new environment roadmap, the MDS team was able to complete the rest of the project over a 4-month period—an impressive feat given the thousands of users affected.

“We moved the customer to an online file system using SharePoint and OneDrive while working to ensure user adoption. In parallel, we set up the infrastructure need to roll out Windows 10, configured security politics for Enterprise Mobility Services (EMS), and defined application-level access for users,” said Michael Trachtenberg, MDS former CTO.

The firm is now fully migrated to its new cloud environment and is experiencing first-hand the operational flexibility afforded by cloud services. What’s more, the organization has been able to apply the learnings from its own transformation to the organizations with which it partners.

We are very impressed and satisfied by the MSP team and their focus on Azure Sentinel. The team was able to complete the project in a reasonable timeframe which has eliminated the stress of a potential cybersecurity attack.
