So long Skype, greetings Teams!

Teams will be fully replacing Skype fully as Office 365' communication client

In today’s high-speed digital climate, it often feels like a new “life-changing” technology is released every other day. But how long is too long to hold off upgrading to the next cutting-edge solution? When it comes to Skype for Business Online, Microsoft is answering that question for us.

Microsoft recently announced that Teams will become the primary client for Intelligent Communications in Office 365, completely replacing Skype for Business Online over time. In late August 2018, Microsoft completed their roadmap for bringing Skype for Business Online features and functionality into Teams, and now say that Teams “is ready to meet your messaging, meeting and calling needs”.

This is a significant milestone for Microsoft and all Office 365 users who have relied on Skype for all past Telephony communications. Microsoft is encouraging customers to leverage partners like Maureen Data Systems to assist in upgrading Skype for Business Online to integrate with Microsoft Teams as the primary communications client in Office 365.

As of November 1st Microsoft will begin offering Maureen Data Systems-associated customers automatic upgrades from Skype for Business Online to Teams. Tenant Administrators will be given advance notification via email and through the Office 365 Message Center.

Don’t wait until it is absolutely mandatory to make the switch over to Microsoft Teams as your main Office 365 communications client, contact an MDS Microsoft expert today to make the switch!
